Our Mutable Histories
Robert Andrew is a Brisbane-based Indigenous artist and descendant of the Yawuru people of the Broome area in the Kimberley, Western Australia.
The three commissioned works exhibited unravel the complexity and the erasure of the artist’s mixed-heritage with the desire to unearth what lies beneath. Playful kinetic machines allow water and ochre to create ever-changing textural landscapes and reclaimed materials are beautifully transformed.
MoB’s Exhibitions Team worked closely with the artist to resolve the approach to the space, the scale of the artwork, the installation of the artwork and some of the functionality. Andrew had a very clear vision of what he was exploring and wanted to achieve and these works struck a chord with museum patrons.
